PK-12 data
Educational policy can center on many factors, including test scores, graduation rates and enrollment reports.
The Virginia Department of Education website has accurate, up-to-date information that allows users to view and download a wide array of state, local and school-level data. Direct links to relevant pages on the VDOE website are listed here for your convenience:
- Virginia’s accountability system
Virginia’s accountability system is called the Standards of Learning and includes annual assessments of student achievement.
- School, school division and state report cards
Each year, VDOE releases online report cards that detail student achievement by subject and grade level.
- School accreditation ratings
Schools must meet certain benchmarks on SOL exams in English, history/social science, math and science each year to earn accreditation.
- Federal accountability standings
Schools and divisions must meet annual measurable objectives that prove they are increasing student achievement and reducing proficiency gaps each year.
- Graduation, completion, dropout and postsecondary data
See the percentage of students who graduate, complete high school, dropout and enroll in postsecondary education.
- Enrollment and demographic reports
Enrollment and demographic statistics are based on the number of students enrolled in public schools as of Sept. 30 each year.
- School climate reports
Schools are required to report any incidents of discipline, crime and violence each year.
- Superintendent’s annual report
Statistics released in this report include enrollment, pupil-teacher ratios, promotion, retention, graduation, dropouts and attendance. Financial and school personnel data is also included.
While the VDOE is a great source for data, others also exist. Here are a few additional options:
- Education Section - U.S. Census Bureau
Provides a quick overview of the types of education data available from the census.
- High-Schools.com
Provides data on public and private high schools in geographic areas (not by school district).
